Japanese Number 7

RANT

Well, we went shopping for this lesson, virtual shopping, anyway. We covered big numbers, and I mean, BIG numbers, like a million yen. As you know, you need a lot of Japanese yen to buy Japanese stuff, cars, for example, cost in excess of millions of yen.

Anyway, one phase we learnt was "Chotto takai desu ne..." which meant, "it's a little expensive". We used it a lot during the class. Doesn't matter what the product was, we just said, "Chotto takai desu ne...". The funniest one was we were buying a roll of toilet paper that cost a something like 200 yen. We still said, "Chotto takai desu ne..." That had us laughing on the floor.

Only three lessons to go. Time flies when you're having fun. Not sure if they have the second module over the summer break here, because it's still not up on the website yet.

Nihongo lesson number 6

RANT

Well, guess what? Last week it was the time, and this week was, naturally, the date and day. The day of the week wasn't too hard to remember, but the date of the month was a different story. We can't use normal counter for some dates, there are different words for 1st to 10th, 20th and 24th. Yay! More stuff to remember.

Anyway, we found out about each other's birthday. One girl has her birthday on the Christmas Eve. What a lucky girl... or unlucky, depends on which way you see it. She would only get one present per year for birthday and Christmas. Maybe she should ask Santa to give her a bigger present. /(^_^)\

Japanese Lesson #5

RANT

A fairly ordinary Japanese lesson last night. The whole lesson was dedicated on reading the time, like what we would have done in kindergarten.

And to top it off, we did do kindergarten work. That's right, we did kindergarten worksheet on "ima nanji desu ka" (or "what time is it now" in english). Come complete with pictures and hour hand in all sort of confusing places. We had so much fun... not. Well, at least we can now tell the time in Japanese.

Next week is probably going to be the day of the week.

With half of the short course completed, there's only another 5 lessons to go. Time flies when you're having fun. It's too short. I've already planned to do the second module. And hopefully next year, I could find time to do the Grad Dip in Japanese, which would last me 3 years part-time.

Japanese Lesson Number 4

RANT

Well, lesson number 4. I missed out on numbers last week. But with a little bit of refreshing, I had no trouble with them.

The main highlight of this lesson was asking for phone numbers of other classmates. All in Japanese, of course. It took a little thinking at the start, but by the sixth person, I can pretty much remembered my phone number in Japanese off by heart.

Learnt more hiragana today. It's N and H this week. Given that I knew them before, and with a little practice that I had before the start of the course, I was okay, I guess.
